Snoring on a regular basis may be due to several causes :
- Being overweight: this is the case in 70% of cases.
- The risks of snoring increase with age due to weakening of the tissue of the upper airways. Even though between the age of 30 and 50 it is mainly men that are concerned (60% of cases) after 60, this difference is less.
- Finally, a deviated nasal septum can be a cause of regular snoring. In actual fact, the nasal passages are narrowed thereby preventing breathing through the nose.
Alternatively, occasional snoring may occur in the event of a cold or allergy or even after drinking alcohol or taking sleeping pills before going to bed.
These factors lead to an obstruction of the airways.
